Climate Impact Week Nature Trail

Climate Impact Week

Take part in our exciting nature trail for Climate Impact Week (2nd- 6th June 2025)! 2030hub

St Helens has a diverse range of wildlife in its open spaces and parks. With over 952 hectares of parks and recreation space, it is home to a variety of species.

Biodiversity, the variety of all life on Earth, provides us with essential benefits.

Biodiversity is crucial for our survival, providing us with everything we need. However, species extinction is accelerating, with over 98% of all species that have ever lived now extinct. In the last 40 years, wildlife populations have decreased by 69%.

The UN have warned that the rate of climate change is also increasingly difficult for animals and plants to cope with, and extreme weather events are becoming more frequent.

Keeping global temperature increases within 1.5 degrees above preindustrial levels is crucial to avoid further biodiversity losses. According to the IPCC report, if global temperatures rise by 1.5-2.5 degrees, approximately 20-30% of species could face extinction.

As part of the 2030hub's Climate Impact Week, St Helens Borough Council is pleased to launch a wildlife nature trail (w/c 2nd June) around the Borough to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on local wildlife. Nature Trail Map

Artwork commissioned by LCRCA for the Local Nature Recovery Strategy

Students at Sutton Academy, in partnership with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA), have created a map showcasing the range of wildlife around the Borough. Based on this map, we have identified green spaces and parks where you might be able to spot these species! After visiting all five sites and locating the posters on the notice boards, scan the QR code to take the quiz!
